4th International Translation Technology Terminology Conference (TTT), 21 - 22 October 2016, Portorož, Slovenia
The 4th International Translation Technology Terminology Conference (TTT) is a two-day event held in Portorož, Slovenia. Focusing on the three Ts, the conference offers a variety of content presented by recognised and well established authors within the industry. It is organised in a manner that offers plenty of opportunities to meet fellow professionals and share or exchange ideas. As such, it also serves as a great way to enhance your business prospects.

Fourth International Workshop on Definitions in Ontologies (IWOOD 2016), 1- 4 August 2016, Corvallis, Oregon, United States
Definitions of terms in ontologies serve a number of purposes. For example, logical definitions allow reasoners to assist in and verify classification, lessening the development burden and enabling expressive query. Natural language definitions can help ameliorate low inter-annotator agreement. Good definitions allow for non-experts and experts in adjacent disciplines to understand unfamiliar terms making it possible to confidently use terms in external ontologies, facilitating data integration.

TOTh Conference: “Linguistic turn and Conceptual renewal” , 9 - 10 June 2016, Chambéry, France
The TOTh conferences aim to assemble researchers, industrialists, practitioners and, in a more general way, everyone whose interests concern terminology, language, and knowledge engineering. The TOTh program committee consists of the most prominent personalities in the domain, representing more than 20 different nationalities. French and English are the official languages.

The 10th international TOTh conference will take place on Thursday 9th and Friday 10th June, 2016 at the University of Savoie (Chambéry, France). On the occasion of this ‘anniversary’ year the focus will be on these two major turning points, i.e. the swing to linguistics and the conceptual renewal, which Terminology has experienced over the last decades.

The ‘Young Researcher’ prize is awarded by the program committee during the conference.

In addition to the conference, the TOTh initiative is organising a Training Session: "The contribution of Linguistics to Terminology", 7 & 8 June 2016 University of Savoie (Chambéry, France).

The TOTh training sessions are organised over two days immediately before the TOTh Conference. They aim to promote collaboration among language and knowledge professionals. The 2016 TOTh training session will focus on ‘The contribution of Linguistics to Terminology’, the 2017 training session on ‘The contribution of Ontology to Terminology’.

NZSTI Conference 2016: REDEFINING BOUNDARIES – FACING NEW CHALLENGES, 28 - 29 May 2016, Christchurch, New Zealand
In 2016 NZSTI will celebrate its 30th anniversary. At the 2016 Conference, to be held in Christchurch on 28 - 29 May 2016, will thus be a time to celebrate, a time to reflect on the past, but also a time to address the challenges of the future in a world characterized by rapid change and increasing complexity.

For language service providers, changes in society and in technology increasingly call into question professional boundaries also. Increasingly we are called upon to be not only language workers but also mediators between cultures. Our markets, our competition, as well as our opportunities for professional cooperation, are increasingly international and intercultural.

Workshop TOTh 2015: Terminology and Standards, 3 December 2015, Luxembourg , Luxembourg
The 2015 TOTh Workshop is organised by DG TRAD – TermCoord

In a globalised society, where objects multiply, specialise and connect (Linked and Open Data), Terminology plays a key role in accessing and managing information: we cannot communicate and share that information unless we agree on the terms being used.

The changes regarding information and language processing demanded by this evolution of society have consequences for Terminology itself and for the standards that govern it. The current revisions of the ISO standards on Terminology, its vocabulary (ISO 1087-1) and its principles and methods (ISO 704) also reflect this.

Official languages: French and English
